Seal in Concord
I was in the tenth row center at Seal's concert in Concord, CA
yesterday. My God!!! The man is incredible. What a performer!! He
performed all the songs that Teri has mentioned including my personal
favorites "A Prayer for the Dying" and "Bring it on".
The crowd was wonderful and they wouldn't let him stop. He kept giving
encores. This being my first concert experience in the US, I was not
sure what I was getting into. Yesterday's experience blew my mind out.
I was also pleasently surprised to find a lot of older people in the
audience. After yesterday's experience, I would have also gone to
his concert in Santa Barbara if I had not been the mother of a
toddler.
This question is for any fan who attended yesterday's concert. I had
to leave after Seal had sung 2 songs following "Bring it on" since it was
past 11 p.m. and my daughter was getting real tired and angry.
What else did he sing later? I hated to leave and I wouldn't have done
it for any body(including God) but her.
I am also angry that not much of a publicity was given to Seal's
only appearance in Northern California. I myself know several fans who did
not know about this until the last minute. What are Seal's
PR people doing?
Any way I am going to remember last night for as long as I live. I am
looking forward to his next appearance here.
Wishing for you all a similar wonderful experience....

Seal's Concord Appearance
I'm a rabid Seal fan, so you can imagine my delight when he would be
appearing right near my hometown just for me.
I went expecting a lot. The new album sends me into bliss each time I
play it. I love all but one song on the album. They're all so intricate
and soft and intimate. Imagine my delight when he started the concert with
The Beginning. What fun. (Joan Jones, by the way, was absolutely
fantastic. Unfortunately, after her appearance, someone felt the need to
play the Jackson 5's greatest hits album on the speaker.)
Anyhow. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the songs from the first album. I
kept waiting and waiting, however, for him to sit and sing one of the new
songs intricately and softly. What a disappointment that every song had a
beat added to it. Most of the time, the stupid drums drowned out the
background singers, which completely destroyed the harmony in many of the
songs. He did perform my favorite from the new album, Colour, much to my
delight-but my delight was shattered when, once again, the drums drowned out
the harmony of the background singers. Colour's best parts are the orgasmic
choruses with their harmonies. So much for that. Don't get me started on
his speech about racial harmony and peace on earth. I felt like hurling,
and at that point I wanted to leave the concert, but I stayed.
One thing that surprised me was the age of the fans. I didn't know that
Seal had so many older fans. I say nary a teenager or young adult at the
concert, one of which I happen to be. (Young adult, that is.) Imagine my
horror and dismay when the intro to Kiss From A Rose started, and all of
these dummies started singing along with it!!! They had all come to the
concert just to hear that one sing, it seemed to me. All of the couples
were lovingly staring into each others eyes and reconfirming their devotion
to each other. "Look honey-it's our song. He's doing our song." I think I
just might hurl right now.
For one thing, I really hate it when Seal trivializes his music by
saying that this song is about racial harmony or that song inspired by this.
Damn you, your songs are not that trite garbage I'm subjected to these days,
so stop saying those things. YOU ARE NOT A POP STAR, DAMMIT!!! LET'S
SEE THE BACKSTREET BOYS COME UP WITH KISS FROM A ROSE. STOP CATEGORIZING
YOURSELF WITH THOSE PEOPLE. YOU ARE NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS CELINE DION.
YOU CAN'T SEE HER BECAUSE YOU ARE SO MUCH HIGHER ON THE SCALE!!!
Goodness. For me-Seal is the ultimate representation of everything that
a musician must be. He is the definition, the definer, the standard setter.
My favorite.
I actually quite enjoyed the concert, but those elements just destroyed
any fun that I had. Why was there no acoustic performance? Where was the
intracacy of the songs from the new album? What's up with those dumb people
and that song? Seal didn't write that song for you to play at your wedding!
Stop 'N Sync-ifying my Seal!
