Joan Jones vs. Seal (Together?!)

OOOOOHHHHHHHHHh.....You are GOING TO LOVE THEM TOGETHER!!

I was at the Vancouver Concert....row 13--CENTER!!!

It was incredible!!!....I'd never heard Joan Jones before....I really enjoyed her..although the volumn was up too loud for her voice....Hard to take some of the high notes.
I WAS surprised by the age group of the crowd...much older than I thought...but at least I didn't feel out of place...hehe The Queen Elizabeth Theater holds roughly 2200 so it was cozy and personal. I was glad once it started that we weren't in a huge stadium.
Joan started right at 8pm and played for 45 mins. Her music is quite entertaining and I'd really like to hear it again so I can make out her lyrics. If you get to see them...notice how much of the music is played by the percussionist! What a wiz!

Seal's entrance was announced about 9pm but he didn't come out on stage for another 15 minutes. I dunno if they weren't ready or if it was because there were SO MANY people being rude and coming in late. Oh it upset me...(there were people still coming in by his third song!!!) but I got over it...as soon as the curtains parted. He was wearing his usual outfit of Black....and looking marvelous in it. I can't for the life of me remember which favorite song he started with..either The Beginning or Prayer for the Dying or Dreaming in Metaphors..(but he played them all) and then Future Love Paridise and then Human Beings. Sorry gang...I didn't keep track of the play list from there I was too busy enjoying. I must admit though. I didn't believe before I went that this was going to be all that...I knew the music was going to be good but Seal's appearances on TV have been somewhat stationary. I know now that that is only because of the medium.....I AM A TRUE BELIEVER!
What a performer! Each song done to perfection and what a show he gives. I adored watching him dance and really enjoy his music. It took awhile for him to get that stuffy crowd on their feet....but once he gave 'permission'...yes honestly....they began to get into it. Yes he played Crazy ....and Lost my Faith...Colour...something from every album. (which btw...he kinda made fun of himeself for being so 'prolific' over the past 10 years...teehee)Yes he played Kiss of a Rose...and someone gave him a beautiful white rose during it. That was the only thing he accepted out of the many things offered from the crowd. He played for about an hour and then left...but came back for a five song encore! His last song of the night was something new....or new to me anyway....I would say the title is 'Move on Up'. What a rockin song!! I hope he records it! The rest of the band did a FANTASTIC job! Each was entertaining to watch all in themselves....but of course my eyes were on Seal most of the time.
I know I haven't given all the details...but it was Truely the best concert I've been too. I haven't quit smiling yet....
*sigh*

May you all have such a wonderful experience!!!!

I just found this list. I love SEAL's music ... wanted to add my comments about the concert. A few days before the concert I listened to his latest CD about 20 times so I would know every nuance, every note. I was REALLY excited the day of the concert. A friend and I took the Skytrain into the city (Vancouver's an hour away), had dinner, got to the theater.

I was extremely disappointed by the warm-up act. Suffice to say I would have preferred an hour of silence and anticipation, or a leisurely cup of tea after dinner. I noticed a lot of people came late, so they must have known SEAL wouldn't come on for a while.

SEAL was fantastic ... I'll never hear his music quite the same way again, now that I've seen him live. But the concert? It wasn't what I was expecting. I had dreamt of an incredible, acoustic sound, with all the colour and subtlety in his recordings. I had wondered if there would be a live string section ... it was not to be ... Unfortunately, the whole concert was very loud, even louder and LOUDEST! ... there was no room for nuance, with the sound pouding through my heart. Can anyone explain this to me? I'm not a concert-goer so I don't know if this is a usual thing ... recordings with the evocative power of an angel, yet a live concert so loud that the sheer beauty of his music was completely overpowered. It seemed such a shame to me in a way, because I believe a live concert could have been even more moving and brilliant than his recordings.

On the plus side, he had incredible stage prescence and I only wished I had been sitting a lot closer!
